Malachi,
You're dead right of course. BBC Ormeau Avenue is too London centred, something I railed against when working there for a short period in my callow youth. I have had innumerable meetings with BBC Trust people regarding the Irish language coverage on BBC - and to little avail.

There has been a PR exercise of late, however, as the BBC promised a quantum leap in Irish language TV programming.{dependent on the continuation of the Irish Language Broadcast Fund}

My own solution is that broadcasting powers be devolved to Belfast - it may be a bumpy landing but then this London connection will seem less important. It will be then up to the local BBC to say what of the 'national' schedule they will broadcast and what they will produce themselves rather than local programmes being shoe horned into the 'national schedule.

I think that broadcasting should be devolved as quickly - or if not more quickly than - polciing and justice.....
